Osiris 2012

This is an article I wrote in 2012, about the Egyptian prophecy regarding December 21, 2012. At that time, I was working for a video production and had my plane ticket bought and ready to cover it. I give this introduction purely so that when you read it, you understand the focus of the article (which was part of a series of other articles documenting the journey).

Osiris Rising not only outlines the prophecy of 2012, but Osiris’s position in Egyptian lore, and what it meant when they said that Osiris would rise in 2012.

Do you think he did?

Quabalistic Cross

The Qabalistic (Kabalistic, Kabbalistic, Qubaalistic) Cross Ritual is traditionally performed before the Lesser Banishing Ritual of a Pentagram. The idea is that it is to bring down divine light and energy into the practitioner to center and strengthen the practitioner, allow them to be ready for what they are about to do, and to ground. It also acts as a means of devotion, putting the practitioner in the center of the Universe, working their way to their placement in the temple of the Gods.

This very simple ritual, which can also act as a simple prayer as well, when practiced regularly, is to help expand the sphere of consciousness as well. It is a means of connecting practitioner to the Universe and the divine before they begin, and when they finish a ritual.

Some teachers say that the Qabalistic Cross should be practiced and mastered at least a week before moving on to the Lesser Banishing Ritual of a Pentagram (LBRP), while some disagree, and even include the Qabalistic Cross in the steps of the LBRP.

The Qabalistic Cross I learned was from Donald Machael Kraig’s Modern Magick. I’ll outline it here, and then go into some of the difference I have come across since.

So, here it is, in steps.

First, find yourself a quiet, private space where you won’t be disturbed. Give yourself a few minutes to do the Relaxation Ritual (or any other breathing, meditative technique you prefer). You can have a dagger if you wish, though not the dagger that is a part of your alter that represents air (If you do choose to use a dagger, and I do recommend it, be sure that it is only for ritual purposes such as these).

  1. Face east.
  2. Be standing, your feet lined up with your shoulders, back, and standing tall (See the general importance of your stance in the video at the bottom of this post). Your hands should be at your side. If you are using a dagger, it should be in your right hand, pointing forward. If not, your right hand should be in a comfortable fist, your index finger pointing forward, at your side.
  3. Visualize yourself growing. Picture yourself getting taller and taller, comfortably going through the roof of your practice space (if you’re inside), beyond the neighborhood you’re in, towering over the city or town or area you live in. Your feet are firmly planted, you’re not going anywhere, just growing up and up and up, into the atmosphere. You see the planets along their paths, and you keep moving up, out of the solar system, growing past the galaxy, through the infinite amount of other galaxies.
  4. About this time, there is a sphere of white light way above you, that you are growing toward. It is a brilliant white light. You can’t look at it for it’s brilliance, but know it is the divine light.
  5. Bring your finger (or dagger up), as if to connect with the light. Visualize it connecting.
  6. Bring Down this light and touch your forehead.
  7. Virbrate Ah-Tah
  8. Bring your finger down and point to the ground between your feet, allowing the white light to follow and shoot down into the earth.
  9. Vibrate Mahl-KOOT
  10. Touch your right shoulder with your finger/dagger.
  11. Vibrate Vih-G’Boo-RAH
  12. Touch your left shoulder.
  13. Vibrate Vih-G’Doo-LAH
  14. Bring your hands together in front of your chest, palms together, in a classic prayer stance. If you have your dagger, it should be held between your hands, pointing up.
  15. Visualize all the points of the energy you have just drawn coming together in that center. Know at this point you are the center of the universe.
  16. Vibrate Lih-Oh-LAHM, Ah-MEN.
  17. Stay in this position for as long as you wish. Breathe in the energy, and understand your position in that moment. Feel the Universe, feel the Divine Light.

Thus is the Qabalistic Cross Ritual. This is to open. To close, you do all the same steps, though omit the first step of growing. You’ve already grown – you don’t need to do it again!

Variations:
Magick is like any other art – there are different techniques that work for different people. Every one has their own way that they work, their own mind set that connects things differently, their own energetic flow. As such, here are a few variations of some different practices.

  • Instead of vibrating “ah-TAH”, at the touch of the fore head, vibrating “eh-Heh-Yeh”
  • After the last vibration, bringing the right finger up – without the dagger, and touch the lips, as if to seal the Ritual in secret.
  • A dagger most definitely should be used, and a steel one at that.

    At GetWhatever.com

  • An almost entirely different Ritual:
Both hands should be raised toward the divine light, without a dagger. They should be open palmed and facing you, fingers up.
Vibrate: In Thy hands, o ineffable one
Imagine “an ocean of divine light” pouring into a sphere just above your head, you draw your hands downward while exhaling, and touch your forehead.
    Vibrate: Is
You bring both hands down so that the palms are still facing you and the energy streams in a 1-2 inch channel to a pool at your feet.
    Vibrate: The Kingdom
Move your right hand to your shoulder, imagining a sphere of light at this point.
    Vibrate: The Power
Go to your left shoulder and visualize a fourth sphere of light.
    Vibrate: And the Glory
Bring both hands to the center of your chest and cup them, open sides inward, toward you.
    Vibrate: Forever and ever, Ahmen.

A Few Things to Understand
As mentioned before, there are variations to each practice. Some swear by the strictest of rules that it must be done to the letter as the Golden Dawn did it. Others understand that these are occult practices – meaning secret. They are public knowledge now that we have entered the Age of Information. However, these practices have survived centuries of being passed in hushed halls, of extremely select few gaining access to this knowledge. That being said, there are debates as to how things are done. You can find many books and websites which talk about certain tweaks that are ever so slight, yet are insisted upon for optimal perfection. At the end of the day, you are the Magician. Yes, you are the one that is practicing this for you and your own vibrational flow. After time, and with study, you will find what works best for you, what yields the best results. This is why is is of the UTMOST IMPORTANCE that you keep a ritual journal. This is something that will be gone into at a later post. However, it records the date, day, time, moon phase, weather, your emotions, your physical being and the rituals your perform, how you performed them as well as your response/result. I have a separate section at the end of each entry for reflection which allows me to go into greater detail of what has been going on in my environment which may have influenced my performance/outcome.

Vibration

Hod – By Alex Grey

What on earth does that mean? Much like the deep throat singing of certain monks, the idea is to find that voice within yourself that when used will have influence over the vibrations of your space. Kraig calls it harmonic resonance:

“If one vibrates powerfully enough, another object nearby will start to vibrate (or resonate) with the firstif the second object has a natural vibratory rate in harmony with the first…Thus if you can control the vibration rate of one object, such as yourself, you will be able to cause certain reaction in other objects, such as those which exist on other planes of existence.” (p.43)

What am I saying?
Validly, you may be wondering just what the words vibrated mean. It is extremely important to have understanding of the words you’re using during ritual. After all, as mentioned above, you’re altering vibrations, and you’re doing so with your verbal resonance.

  • Ateh – Thou Art
  • Malkuth – the Kingdom
  • ve-Geburah – and the Power
  • ve-Gedulah – and the Glory
  • le-Olam – Forever
  • Eheieh – I am

The last one was in light of the possible alteration as mentioned above, that would replace Ateh.

A wealth more of information can be found:

  • Erwin Hessel – this site is extremely detailed, and gives the learner a lot to think about, different visualization techniques and important things to consider. I strongly recommend reading through this.
  • Modern Magick by Donald Michale Kraig. This book is what got me started on Ceremonial Magick, and goes more in depth as to why certain words are used as well as what motions mean.
  • Self Initiation into the Golden Dawn Tradition by Chick and Sandra Tabatha Cicero. For any aspiring practitioner of Ceremonial Magick, I recommend this book. Even if you’re not planning on initiation into the Golden Dawn, there is copious amounts of information within these pages.
  • Web of Qabalah – I shared this link above, but I wanted to make sure it didn’t get missed out on. This is where I found the English version of the Qabalistic Cross Ritual, which also gives more information on a closing version as well.
  • Hermetic – Personally, I am going to be more open to anything that has the words Hermetic or Thelemic in the title, purely because I resonate well with those systems. This is a personal choice. This site has good bulletted instructions that make this and the LBRP easy to follow.

Personally, I’m generally not a fan of Llewellyn. Not to say anything against the company, I just find that what they publish, sell and distribute is a little fluffy for me. However, they do a lot of good, and are great for most people with any interest in divination, paganism, astrology – anything occult.

However, in an effort to expand my mind, I began looking through the articles on the website and found this one: The Lost Secrets of Western Magick Revealed. This article talks about the difference between “Western practitioners” and …well, the rest. By Western Practitioners, they mean people that might not put the daily dedication into the craft but just pull it from their sleeve (look up something on the internet, or in a Spell-a-Day book) when they need something.

“Thanks to the great melting-pot that is social media, I have encountered more than a few non-Western conjurors and shamans who describe our magick as more fantasy than reality. They suggest we don’t know how to perform real magick, that we simply don’t get results. If they are being especially nice about it, they’ll say that our magick is primarily mental—meaning our systems are designed to create change within our brains rather than in the physical world. Wiccan ceremonies, I have been told, come across more like self-help or group therapy than ancient magickal rites. And most Golden Dawn or Thelemic practitioners are written off as arm-chair wizards at best.”

For some one such as myself that puts great store in the Thelelmic order and/or the Golden Dawn – anything to be considered high ceremonial magick – this is quite an interesting statement. Those that are of the “non-Western conjurors” are shamans and otehr witches that are not of the Western hemisphere.

The article goes on to tell how older-to-ancient traditions were lost during the Inquisitions, when witchcraft was declared illegal, and then more so with the development of sciences.

“Those occultists who insisted on continuing the practice of magick under the nose of unrelenting Science found themselves re-interpreting many of the old ways into new pseudo-scientific forms. This was aided in no small way by the advent of psychology, which allowed them to interpret all things magickal or fantastical as mere aspects of the human psyche—convenient fictions created by primitive men who simply had no scientific language to describe their world. In time the Industrial Revolution came, and Western society (including its magick) was re-cast in a mold entirely removed from the agrarian life that had given birth to the old ways.

Thus was a schism formed between ancient forms of magick and the Western form. This is why, today, we have to make a distinction between the “Old Magick” (pre-Enlightenment) and modern magick. This is why practitioners of indigenous folk magicks and ancient Pagan religions around the world see themselves as set apart from us—and why many of us seem to agree with them.”

After going into a little bit more of a history, the article proceeds to explain just exactly what was lost during this time, and what we have been left to reinterpret:

  • Ancestors
  • Intermediary Spirits (Gatekeepers)
  • Familiars and Patrons
  • Offerings and Spirit Feeding
  • Physical Bases

The author is well researched, and writes a good article, which I strongly encourage reading in full, especially to gain more detail of the bullets above.

Protection against and Recovery From Draining

I am able to take a lot on. I pride myself in being busy, and being able to handle a lot of differing things. However, every now and then, I buckle, and I need to recharge my batteries.

However, recently I found myself, without knowing it, pouring my energy out to other people (ok, one person I was directly meaning to do so). I neglected my ability to shield myself, and/or took for granted the strength I may or may not have had. As a result, I woke up one morning without any ability to think or move. My bones felt as though they had been replaced with cement, and my ability to string together a sentence was next to nothing.

I thankfully had friends that were ready to spring into action and help. One made me some bathsalts with rose buds and oil as well as her own white light energy charging it. Another put together a little rejuvenation kit for me at the shop she works at including incense, oils, mists, crystals and a string of lemongrass.

The latter friend with the crystals had me hold each crystal as I read about their properties. My energy was so drained that my fingers were twitching as I held each one because. It’s much like when putting hot water in cold glass and it cracks. That’s how I felt. Eventually the twitching stopped, and my hands stopped shaking as well.

This was an awful feeling, and I plan on doing whatever I can to prevent it from happening again. Three things I need to be mindful of:

  1. Recharging myself – this means taking time to meditate, sit with crystals, disconnect from electronics, etc. This is both on the spiritual plane as well as the physical plane. If I’m not nourishing myself, then I will have nothing to draw from to get me through the day mentally or physically. So eating right is important too. I recently have been living on a diet of chips and cup o’ noodle soups.
  2. Remembering when helping people not to draw on my own reserves. I have a little bit of reiki training, and even from what I’ve gathered outside of it, you can allow yourself to be a medium for Universal energy. When I am sending healing and loving energies, I need to remember to tap into Universal energies instead of my own.
  3. Shield myself. In part, I was allowing people to take my energy, whether I was aware of it or not. I used to constantly reaffirm my shield, though somewhere along the line I think I decided it was strong enough, and gradually stopped. As a result, I think my shield has been next to nothing, with only the silver and pentagram pendant I wear to help protect me. However, when considering protection, it’s not just from intentional, malice forces, but from those around you that you care about and open yourself up to consciously or unconsciously.

Let’s focus on preventatives – shielding and alternative sources of energy pools to draw from.

How do you shield yourself?
There many different ways to go about doing this. Some do it through meditation, some do it through pendants, some do it through regular practice of certain rituals.

  1. Meditation
When you meditate you strengthen your aura, which also can act as protection. However, there is a meditation I generally like to do before I go to bed. I think I learned it from Modern Magick by Donald Michale Kraig – since it is very similar to the Relaxation Ritual he writes about, though slightly tweaked. But I have been doing this meditation for so long, I can’t remember where it came from.
This works for strengthening your shield, connecting you with the earth and Universe and thus recharging you as well.
You can do this sitting in a chair  or laying down. Try not to have any limbs crossed – so no crossed legs or feet, or hands.
Visualize a sphere of white protective light above your head about at your crown chakra. Move it slowly down your body, so that it wraps you three dimensional blanket of white protective light. The sphere moves down your body, relaxing your muscles as it goes. If there is a part of you that remains tense or returns to a tense state, gently and methodically move the sphere to that area and work on relaxing it. Move the sphere back up your body so that it resumes it’s place at above your head. You are still surrounded by it’s white light.
Imagine a string of silver or white come down from the Universe. This light is divine, and meets your sphere of light, strengthening its effect with Universal energy and love.
While still visualizing the Universal Energy coming down, visualize that energy traveling through your chakras, feeding energy to each, all the way through your feet, then continuing down into the earth. It keeps traveling down until it gets to the earth’s core. You have created a channel between the earth and Universe. It is a two way street. Feel the energy of the earth traveling up this chanel and into you, meeting each of your chakras and feeding energy into each.
Stay like this for as long as you want.
  2. Wearing certain stones, symbols and metals can help enforce your shield, such as silver, quartz, citrine, hematite and a pentagram. However, if you are wearing them, please remember to cleanse them regularly. This can be done by burying them in soil, in sea salt, putting them in a stream, or my favorite – putting them in the light of the sun or the full moon.
  3. White Sage, sandalwood and lemongrass are good incenses or essential oils to burn around you at some point of your day. If you have a bundle of white sage, after lighting, run it along yourself, under your arms, between your legs, under your feet (carefully, of course). The smoke will dispel any negativity and help charge you as well.
  4. Regularly practicing the Lesser Banishing Ritual of a Pentagram as well as the Middle Pillar Ritual will help keep you charged, if done correctly.

What do you do if you’ve made the mistake of draining yourself?

  1. Rest! Go home and rest! Don’t leave the house just rest!
  2. Turn off electronics. Electromagnetic Smog, defined in The Crystal Bible as “A subtle but detectable electromagnetic field that can have an adverse effect on sensitive people. The smog is given off by electrical power lines and items such as computers, cell phones and televisions,” can throw off your energy quite a bit, and drain you trying to fend it off, whether you’re aware that you’re doing it or not. Allowing yourself time without electronics is a good practice any way, but definitely should be done when drained.
  3. Drink lots of water! Again, if you can’t look after yourself physically, the rest of you will suffer too. Never say no to H2O!
  4. Bath with seasalt and rose (the benefits of Rose can be found here). Use candles if possible to light your bathroom, or if you have a window and it’s a fantastically full moon out, just let the light of the full moon stream in. Feel the energy of the rose, the candles, the water, the moon fill you. Drink it in (do not literally drink the bath water). If you can and feel comfortable, dunk your head back and submerge your face in the bath for a moment or two, being as encompassed by the energy of the bath as possible. Stay as long as you’re comfortable in the bath.
When you’re ready to get out, drain the bath tub, but stay in it, feeling any negativity that might have been dwelling in you melt away down the drain with the water. Breathe in the energy of the elements around you, breathe out negativity.
My experience with this – I literally saw my own aura brighten, something I have never experienced before. I have never seen auras, and this time I saw it all around me, and even my vision became blocked with my aura as it strengthened and filled me. I stayed in the bath tub after it had drained for several minutes, breathing in the pink and orange energies from the rose and candles (I collected the rose buds before I drained the bath and was holding them in my left hand, my receiving hand). I visualized white, orange and pink going in, and expelled black, which eventually faded to gray, which faded to nothing with each breath.
  5. Spend time with crystals. Again, quarts and citrine are great for rejuvenating energy. Some other crystals which are very beneficial are emerald, sugilite, and malachite. There are a great many more, but these are just a few to get you started.
Because of this, it is a good idea to ensure that you regularly spend time with crystals any way, charging them when you can. In my case, it had literally been years since I brought them out of their little bag, and as a result, yielded little results for me.
  6. Black candles – these are good for rejuvenating energy as well. Though be sure that when you burn them your intentions are on filling yourself with positive energy. It might be beneficial as well to anoint the candle with rose, white sage, lemongrass or sandalwood oil as well.
  7. Meditate. See instructions above.

So please, don’t do what I did, or didn’t do as the case might be. Look after yourself, shield yourself, protect yourself, and replenish yourself. Just because you love the people you’re around and they love you doesn’t mean you’re safe from accidentally giving your energy away or having it sucked away from you. Both happen without intention, and it truly sucks when it does.

Classically, should you stumble upon it during a walk on the beach (especially if the beach you find yourself on is in Wales, you’re more than likely to do so), the piece you find will be mostly white and cloudy with an orange end. Should you find it in the shop, polished or not, you will find it to be mostly white, with orange on the end. This is the classic characteristic of citrine, the mostly white with some orange combo. Because of this, it’s quite easy to pick out and not get confused between it and another crystal such as amber (most of the time).

This crystal is a regeneratore. Having it near you will restore your energy and optimism. It will also do the same for any other crystals or metaphysical tools you might have. It is a wonderful piece to have on your alter specifically for that reason. It cleanses beautifully, and doesn’t need cleansing in return. It is a constant source of energy direct from the sun and earth and ready for any task. “It absorbs, transmutes, dissipates and grounds negative energy and is therefore extremely protective for the environment,” says TheCrystal Bible. It is no wonder it is so abundant in places like Russia, France, Britain and the U.S. (as well as other places) – perhaps it has been what has kept us from fully destroying ourselves.

This stone is so proficient as a cleanser that it will even alert the wearer of any low energy, over extension of energy, negative energy or draining of energy before it is too late, so that the wearer can take appropriate action. Because of this, it is excellent for protection.

A tried and true action to be taken with citrine is to put some in the wealth corner of your house (or your bedroom if you have shared space). In Feng Shui, the wealth corner is the back left corner of the house from your front door (or of your bedroom from your bedroom door, again if you’re sharing space). I personally have kept this as practice for at least 8 years and have never had overwhelming money problems (a couple of tight moments, but it always came through in the end). This is a stone of abundance, which allows one to manifest and attract wealth on all levels when needed, as well as success and over-all good things.

Citrineaids in the betterment of the self on psychological levels as well as emotional levels. It helps raise self esteem and confidence, and will negate self destructive tendencies, as well as aid in motivation, creativity and helps with communication of ideas, thoughts and feelings. For those who are quite sensitive (like myself), it will help with the thicker skin, helping one to cope with or be able to take criticisms and/or harsh realities/truths. This stone-of-the-sun will help clear out the darkness and uplift one from the depths of depression, stabilize fears and phobias, and can help in calming anger and replacing it with reason and understanding.

Emerald

It is said that the chalice that was the Holy Grail was carved from Emerald, and it was the stone of preference of Cleopatra. These could both be due to the nature of the stone, that it corresponds to the heart chakra, representing universal and unconditional love. It is considered a stone of royalty. Verses from the Koran used to be inscribed on pieces of emerald and worn as an amulet.

Emerald is a type of Beryl, and thus yields some of the same properties (scrying, activation of crown and solar plexus, shedding stressful baggage, enhancement of courage and calm, promote focus and positive views, discourages anxiety and “Reawakens love in those who are married by jade” (Crystal Bible, p.80)), in addition to it’s own. It should be noted here that there are some place that market “red emerald” which is not emerald but red Beryl.
The optimal places for it to be worn are on the little or ring finger, over the heart (as it corresponds to the heart chakra, or worn on the right arm. The Crytal Bible warns against wearing it too consistently as it can cause emotional negativity.

Emerald is given as a representation of a healthy and happy romance, and thus is an agent of love. It can be used in magickal love workings – including reviving passion, and aiding in communication in matters of the heart. Melody in her book, Love is in the Earth calls it “a stone of successful love…It is said to provide for domstic bliss and to insist both sensitivity and loyalty within the self and within others.” This stone will also bring joy and peace to the home.

In the workplace, or study, emerald can be kept to help with memory and focus and other positive mental abilities. It also keep the moral compass anchored, allowing reason and the sense of “what is right” to combine and make beneficial and karmically “right” decisions. It allows one very focused intent, and goes further than the world of the mundane, opening up psychic abilities and stimulates gathering wisdom from the astral and mental plane.

Rose – Lore, Health and Use in Magick

My Experience

Recently, the rose has been appearing in many ways in my life – gift of the tea have arrived to me, accidental acquiring of said rose incense, and noticing roses around me. I refuse to turn down symbols that appear consistently to me. When working on some of my own personal issues, I came across a glass rose that was gifted to me last year. For the first time I truly looked at it. I studied how the stem was laden with prickles, running my finger over the dulled glass spikes. I observed how a branch of it came off, separated from the stem of the rose and then looped back to the stem with two new leaves attached to it. I followed the stem up to the blossom – the glass depiction of spread layers of red petals that hold within them their secret little chamber. It was in that moment that I realized the message of the rose:

The path is hard, it is full of things that can deter you and even injure you. But if you endure this, the result is beautiful and worth it.

The Sick Rose by William Blake

Lore of the Rose

The rose has long been the representation of love and passion, a symbolism that even those oblivious to the occult can recognize. The red of the rose was said to be the blood of Aphrodite as she pricked her heal when with Adonis. In Rome, the rose was associated with Venus, Cupid and Bacchus.
Even as times moved beyond the days of Roman and Greek gods, the Roman Catholic church recognized its representation of secrecy due to it’s many petals. The petals were said to be the veils of knowledge that one had to go through to find truth. During hidden meetings, the Rosecrutians would hang a single rose from the ceiling of their meeting spot to ensure secrecy.

Magickal Uses

  • Abundance –

Strengthening the Aura and the Self

Everyone can relate to this – you’re sluggish, have been extending yourself well beyond your capacity and now you’re just drained. In finding myself in this situation, I began looking up things online. I have dozens of books that probably have more direct information, but I am literally so drained that I can barely remember how to use an index.

So, I found this article called 12 Great Ways to Strengthen Your Aura by Carole Fogarty

It goes over why you need to strengthen your aura as well as what an aura is. The bullet points are as follow (but please, check out the article for the recipes and more details!)

  1. Yogic Cleansing Bath
  2. Sage Smudge Stick
  3. Let the Sun Feed Your Aura
  4. Sea Salt
  5. Cold Shower
  6. Sound Medicine
  7. Labradorite
  8. Reduce Your Exposure to Electrical Stuff
  9. Vetiver
  10. Black Tourmaline
  11. Flower essences: Fringed violet and Angelsword
  12. Be Mindful of the People and Places that are Zapping Your Energy

Your aura is simply an extension of you.   When strong it acts as a protective shield.  When fragile or damaged it can leave you drained, unwell and feeling disconnected from yourself.

Think of your aura as your own personal body guard (in the form of a giant bubble) that simply “flicks off” anything stressful, disturbing or potentially draining that you may be sensitive too.

THE FOUR POWERS OF THE MAGUS

This is a blog I’ve recently discovered and found to be full of good information. I’m happy to find others in the community of magickal studies. This particular entry has some very good information to keep in mind as one pursues their spiritual path.
